Art League Academy now offers online classes, workshops and demos to students at all skill levels, including true beginners.
This August, Art League Academy is offering two virtual 4-week classes via Zoom taught by long-time Academy instructors Art Cornell and Alexandra Sharma.
Art League Gallery showcases local talent with international fame
Jan Ross, a beloved instructor at Art League Academy, will be showcasing her watercolor paintings at Art League Gallery this August. Ross is known for her technique of layering pigment to produce vibrant, translucent colors; her work is bold, cheerful, and sometimes humorous, presenting people and places in a loving light. She strives to capture the personality of a person, or draw attention to overlooked details in a landscape or ordinary objects.
SoBA has been awarding the Naomi McCracken Scholarship for 13 years
Recent May River High School graduate Adeline Dewig was the recipient of The Society of Bluffton Artists’ (SOBA) Naomi McCracken Scholarship. Dewig was in the top 10 of her graduating class and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree of fine arts at Clemson University in the fall.
For only four days, Art League of Hilton Head will host a much-loved and anticipated alternate artistic reality—one in which Monet’s Lady on a Hill wears sunglasses, a Van Gogh countryside features a very modern putting green, and Whistler’s Mother sits in dour silence, enjoying a cocktail.
This July, Art League Gallery will host Wall Flowers, an exhibit of paintings by Amos Hummell, longtime resident and iconic artist of Hilton Head Island. The show is named in part for the canvases Hummell uses—recycled cabinet doors and picture frames usually found on walls. “My instinct is to liven up these items,” Hummell said. “I want to energize them with new life, to bring them out of the shadows of neglect."
La Petite Gallerie is located in a lovely historic space on Calhoun Street in old town Bluffton. Featuring five of the area’s favorite painters and two talented sculptors, this special collection of art is an ever-changing delight, with many pieces spilling out into the adjacent garden.
